Surgery

The decision to have surgery is made between you and a gynecologic surgeon and depends on the kind of endometriosis you have and your priorities.

Surgery may improve your pain and sexual quality of life.

Surgery for endometriosis is usually done by laparoscopic surgery, which is a low-risk procedure where a qualified surgeon operates through tiny (1cm) incisions in the abdomen. Through this procedure, the surgeon can remove your endometriosis.

Management of pain caused by endometriosis is usually done with medication and/or surgery. Either option can help manage your pain, but surgery may be the best option if you are trying to get pregnant.  Since endometriosis is complex, often multiple treatments will be recommended.

In addition, there is now evidence that other treatments such as physiotherapymindfulness based therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy can also be effective for endometriosis pain.
